Women Suffering with Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome Find Comprehensive Treatment at Women’s Excellence in Bladder Control

October 19, 2012

Women with Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) frequently have pelvic and bladder pain, pain with urination or intercourse, a strong urge to urinate, or frequent urination. Women´s Excellence in Bladder Control has developed a comprehensive treatment plan to control the symptoms of IC/PBS and improve the patient´s quality of life.

IC/PBS in the female population may be more common than previously thought. Dr. Jonathan Zaidan suspected IC/PBS coexisted in many of his patients with endometriosis and was simply not having favorable outcomes from urology consults. In response to the demand for care, Dr. Zaidan decided to create a specialty center designed to help women with their urological concerns, including IC/PBS. He created Women´s Excellence in Bladder Control.

Women´s Excellence in Bladder Control was opened in July 2009 and was designed for women´s urological concerns. Dr. Jonathan Zaidan´s first order of business was to design a treatment protocol for his patients suffering from IC/PBS, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the bladder likely due to an insufficient bladder lining problem. He hired, certified nurse practitioner, Debbie Henry to research, design, and implement the program. Now 3 years later, Women´s Excellence has helped countless women not just with IC/PBS, but with other bladder control problems such as Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse.

“At Women´s Excellence in Bladder Control, we realize that by the time the diagnosis (of IC/PBS) is made, women are often stressed or anxious from dealing with the symptoms on a day-to-day basis. We can provide a timely and comprehensive evaluation of the condition including urinalysis, urine culture and vaginal/cervical cultures to rule out infection, potassium sensitivity testing to identify interstitial cystitis, and cystoscopy to ensure there are no other gross abnormalities present”, said Dr. Zaidan. Once the correct diagnosis is made, the patient is offered an effective, comprehensive, and conservative treatment approach. The treatment usually includes dietary changes, oral medications, or simple instillations of medications directly into the bladder to help with the pain and urgency.

Conservative therapy is usually quite effective in most cases, but if symptoms continue in spite of the conservative therapy, Women´s Excellence in Bladder Control also offers InterStim therapy for urinary incontinence and overactive bladder. InterStim is a revolutionary new therapy that controls bladder symptoms through neuro-sacral modulation, very similar to how a pacemaker controls the heart. The tiny device can be easily implanted, not noticeable, and easily managed.
