Texas Music Theater Becomes First Non-smoking Bar or Music Venue in Hays County
A popular Central Texas music venue enacts a non-smoking policy for guests enjoyment of live music.
San Marcos, Texas (PRWEB) December 03, 2012
November 28, 2012 – The Texas Music Theater, a music venue in downtown San Marcos, Texas, announced the decision last week to enact a non-smoking policy to create a smoke-free listening experience during ticketed shows, becoming the first bar or music venue in Hays County to initiate the policy.
The City of San Marcos and Hays County allows owners of bars and music venues to determine its smoking policy, and so far all continue to allow smoking. The smoking issue in public places has become a focal point of recent San Marcos City Council discussions.
San Marcos Mayor, Daniel Guerrero, was happy with the decision.
“Community wellness is one of the key strategic goals of our City Council. City facilities are all smoke-free and we are pleased that a popular music venue that attracts so many people to San Marcos is taking the lead on this as well,” he said.
Recent events at the Texas Music Theater including the Blue October Concert and Delbert McClinton Concert brought in patrons from all across Texas and the entire country. Many visit the venue from Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and other large cities, where non-smoking in public places has become the norm.
Both musicians and patrons have asked for a smoke-free facility including several guests who specifically asked about the smoking policy for the New Year´s Eve concert featuring Americana recording artist and Hays County resident Ray Wylie Hubbard.
“So many of Ray Wylie´s fans prefer the comfort of smoke-free shows, so we were thrilled to hear the Texas Music Theater has now become non-smoking – just when we thought the place couldn´t get any better!” said Judy Hubbard, Ray Wylie´s wife and manager.
“We want the Texas Music Theater Experience to be a great music experience for everyone and believe a smoke-free environment is a more comfortable, not to mention healthier, experience for our guests and the artists who play here — both nonsmokers and those who smoke,” said Texas Music Theater Media and Marketing Manager, Jodi Tidwell. “Since the first night we enacted the policy we have had many people thank us for the decision and several Central Texas residents have told us they could now enjoy live music without driving to Austin.”
The City Manager´s Office has agreed to install one of the large, city-owned ashtrays in front of the building and the new policy will allow smoking in front of The Theater, away from the doorway.
The venue will still allow smoking inside during non-ticketed shows with a traditionally larger percentage of smoking patrons, but may make the decision to go entirely smoke free soon based on customer input on these nights.
