Car Accident Victim Obtains $1.9 Million Settlement from Insurance Company, Says Washington D.C. Personal Injury Attorney Mike Slocumb

December 5, 2012

A Virginia woman received $1.9 million compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and special needs related to a car accident that caused severe injuries and permanent disability.

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 04, 2012

The Mike Slocumb Law Firm today announced that auto accident lawyers in Washington, D.C., obtained a $1.9 million settlement on behalf of a woman who was seriously injured last year, after the driver of a commercial vehicle ran a red light and slammed into her car, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.

According to court documents (Circuit Court of Prince William County (Virginia), Case No.: CL1100-7710-11), the victim, Rabia Omari, 45, sustained broken bones, internal damage and a traumatic brain injury as a result of the Nov. 14, 2011, accident in Bristow, Virginia. She was rescued from her Volkswagen Jetta by emergency personnel using the Jaws of Life extrication tool, and then transported by a Life Flight helicopter to a hospital, according to the documents. She was comatose at the hospital, with life-threatening injuries.

Washington D.C. personal injury lawyer Michael W. Slocumb said the settlement will help cover costs related to the terrible accident. Prior to the accident, she had no disabilities and was employed full time. “Rabia Omari has been caused much physical pain, suffering and mental anguish as a result of the injuries she sustained,” Slocumb said. “She has had to endure the inconvenience and financial hardship of numerous doctors´ appointments and physical therapy sessions. She suffers from traumatic brain injury, (and) is dependent upon 24/7 care.”

“Not only is she unable to be a productive member of society,” Slocumb added, “but she is also no longer able to participate in normal daily household activities without the constant help of others. She has suffered in so many ways, but more importantly, she has lost the enjoyment of life. And though she has made a remarkable partial recovery, her disability is likely to get worse with age.”

Ms. Omari´s medical bills were approximately $230,000, with an additional $37,000 in dental bills, according to documents. The family plans to purchase a single-family home that will meet the needs of Ms. Omari, who now lives with her family in a townhouse that does not accommodate her needs, according to court documents.

In a settlement demand written to the negligent party´s insurance company´s attorneys, Slocumb stated that Ms. Omari became permanently disabled as a result of the accident. Johnny Ross, the driver of the commercial vehicle, which was owned by Mr. Handyman, pleaded guilty on Feb. 21 to improper driving.

“This case shows how someone´s reckless actions can change everything in a second,” Slocumb said. “If you or a loved one is injured in an accident due to negligence, it´s important to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer about your rights. You will need an aggressive attorney who will make sure the negligent individual or entity is held accountable.”
