As part of a larger initiative to educate dog owners on proper nutrition, effective training, and other ways to raise a happy and healthy dog, the Dogington Post reviewed products, toys, food, treats and trainers for their first annual Dogington Post Awards of 2012.

Three companies or products will be nominated in each of several categories including Best Wet Food, Best Dry Food, Best Organic Food, Best Raw Food, Best Treat, Best National Pet Store, Best Toy, Best Dog Trainer, Best Rescue, and more.

This week, the nominees for the Best Raw Dog Food category were announced via the website and Dogington Post´s Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We´re using strict criteria when nominating companies and products for these awards,” said Brandy Arnold, Content Editor for Dogington Post. “The Best Raw Dog Food nominees are no exception. They are manufactured in US-based facilities, with thoughtful sourcing, handling, and processing of the foods we feed our dogs every day. We won´t recommend food with ingredients sourced from China.”

“Additionally,” Brandy said, “in choosing our nominees for Best Raw Dog Food, we looked for brands with complete dedication to the health and well-being of our pets. With a raw diet, as important as what’s IN the food is what’s left OUT of it. We only nominated brands that are free of preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, unhealthy grains and fillers, choosing only brands that provide wholesome, natural, whole raw foods for our pets.”

One of Dogington Post´s Best Raw Dog Food nominees began when it´s owner began feeding her dog a raw diet on the advice of her veterinarian. After seeing vast improvements in the health and vitality of her dog, she sought to make a commercially available product as good as what she was making at home.

The second Best Raw Dog Food nominee is on a mission to help dog owners provide healthier, longer lives for their pets by providing a convenient and affordable way to feed healthy, raw, grain-free meals. They sell their food direct-to-consumers at wholesale prices.

The site´s third Best Raw Dog Food nominee takes a scientific approach to pet nutrition and strives to be more than a pet food company but rather, an ethical, social and environmentally conscious movement in the raw pet food industry.

Dogington Post reaches over 2.5 million dog lovers each week. The site´s readers will be asked to vote for their choice of the three nominees to win the Dogington Post Award in the Best Wet Dog Food category.

All award winners will be announced after each of the categories have been voted on. Winners will be chosen by a combination of fan votes and committee and announced in January 2013.

Winners will receive the Dogington Post Top Dog Seal of Approval, massive social media recognition and a press release by Dogington Post announcing their award.
