Skechers Lawsuit Alleges Skechers Shape-Ups Toning Shoes Caused Plaintiffs Ankle to Collapse Causing Serious Tendon Injuries including Achilles tendinitis, tendinosis while Wearing Skechers Shape-Ups Toning Shoes During Daily Activities

Dayton, OH (PRWEB) February 03, 2013

The defective products liability law firm of Wright & Schulte LLC has filed a Skechers Shape-Ups injury lawsuit on behalf of an Ohio woman who suffered tendinitis, tendinosis, strain, and trapped nerves in her foot, ankle, and calf, allegedly due to her use of Skechers Shape-Ups toning shoes during her daily activities. The Skechers tendon injury lawsuit, which was filed on January 5, 2013, names Skechers USA Inc., Skechers USA Inc., II, and Skechers Fitness Group as defendants. The Skechers lawsuit joins many others filed by Wright & Schulte LLC in the Skechers Toning Shoe Product Liability Litigation (MDL 2308) currently underway in U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky under U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell. (Case No. Case 3:13-cv-00016-TBR)

The Skechers Shape-Ups lawsuit claims that after seeing many television and print advertisements touting the benefits of Skechers Shape-Up toning shoes, the plaintiff was allegedly encouraged to purchase a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups in February 2011 in Youngstown, Ohio. After wearing the shoes for a short period each day for two weeks, the plaintiff began wearing the shoes for her daily activities. In March of that year, the plaintiff was allegedly walking on a flat surface in her backyard when her Skechers Shape-Ups shoe suddenly rotated inwards causing her ankle to collapse.

The Skechers Shape-Ups lawsuit declares the plaintiff´s doctor placed her in an air cast and referred to an Ankle and Foot Care Center where she had an MRI and placed in an Unna boot compression wrap. The MRI allegedly revealed Achilles tendinitis, tendinosis, and a strain in the area. The plaintiff underwent physical therapy for those injuries. In January 2012, the plaintiff´s doctor referred her for a nerve conduction study because of her continued pain. The study allegedly revealed trapped nerves in the plaintiff´s calf, foot, and ankle, for which she had to undergo decompression surgery and more physical therapy.

The Skechers lawsuit alleges that the manufacturers of Skechers Shape-Ups toning shoes knew the footwear produced a substantial risk of causing chronic injuries and inducing falls because of the unstable rocker-bottom sole that alters gait mechanics and creates instability. The skechers complaint references a study conducted by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), which found that toning shoes showed no ℠statistically significant increases in either exercise response or muscle activation´. The skechers study found that there is “simply no evidence to support the claims that these shoes will help wearers exercise more intensely, burn more calories or improve muscle strength and tone,” the lawsuit states.
