February 15, 2013

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) February 15, 2013

As part of a larger initiative to educate dog owners on proper nutrition, effective training, and other ways to raise a happy and healthy dog, the Dogington Post reviewed products, toys, food, treats and more for their first annual Dogington Post Awards of 2012.

“We used strict criteria when nominating people and products for these awards,” explained Brandy Arnold, Content Editor for Dogington Post. “The Best Dog-Loving Celebrity nominees have proven a dedication to helping dogs, either through charity or their own rescue efforts.”

Readers and fans voted for the Best Dog-Loving Celebrity and chose Ellen Degeneres as their favorite.

Each week on her television show and website, the hilarious talk show host and animal advocate showcases adoptable pets, interviews other dog-loving celebrities, and shares funny videos of goofy pets — all in the name of bringing awareness to dog and cat rescue, shedding light on dog homelessness, and encouraging fans to open their homes and hearts to dogs.

Helping homeless pets find their forever homes is a cause close to Ellen DeGeneres´ heart. “Pet adoption is something I´m extremely passionate about. I believe that by working together, we can find good homes for the millions of homeless and abandoned pets out there,” she has said.

Co-owner of Halo Pet Foods and the Halo Pet Foundation, DeGeneres strives to provide pets with happier, healthier, longer lives by providing the best quality dog and cat foods available. Now partnered with FreeKibble.com, Ellen and Halo provide healthy foods to shelter dogs around the nation, ultimately making them healthier, happier, and more adoptable.

Arnold said, “besides simply nominating the most popular celebrities, we looked specifically for those that are genuinely devoted to dogs. Ellen has used her highly public status to promote animal advocacy, and has gone above and beyond to improve the lives of dogs.”

Dogington Post reaches over 2.5 million dog lovers each week. The site´s readers were asked to vote for their favorite celebrity in an online contest that ran in December 2012 and January 2013.

The silver medal winner for best dog-loving celebrity was awarded to teen star and dog lover, Miley Cyrus. Country star and founder of the MuttNation Foundation, Miranda Lambert, was awarded the bronze medal.
