New York Construction Accident Lawyer David Perecman Discusses Crane Safety Following Tree-Trimming Crane Accident
New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman of The Perecman Firm offers crane safety advice following the tipping of a crane in New Jersey. The crane fell over while trying to lift pieces of a heavy tree, injuring a tree-trimmer.
New York, New York (PRWEB) February 19, 2013
A crane fell over while it was lifting a large section of a tree. The tree trimmer working from the basket of the crane was tossed onto the roof of a nearby home and suffered a broken leg, said the Courier-Post. “Lifting heavy things is a dangerous business,” said New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman. “Crane usage carries a greater potential for disaster than almost any other construction site activity.”
The crane was being used to remove trunk sections being cut from a “towering” tree, reported the Courier-Post on Feb. 7th, 2013. Haddonfield Fire Chief Joseph Riggs said the tree was heavier than expected. The weight of the tree was thought to have caused the crane and truck to tilt.
“Crane operators must know the limits of their crane and always keep the loads within those limits,” said Perecman. “A large percentage of crane accidents are avoidable.”
The operator was unable to leave the crane cab for more than an hour. An electric line had fallen on the truck after the crane’s boom tore down the power line, the Courier-Post said.
“The operator did the right thing by staying in the cab. Electrocution is a leading cause of death for people working with cranes,” Perecman said.
