Special Need School’s Therapy Dog Receives Award from Atlanta Magazine
Haley, therapy dog at special needs school Cumberland Academy of Georgia, has been chosen by Atlanta Magazine as the Pet of the Month for their April issue.

Cumberland Academy of Georgia is a school for special needs students with high functioning Autism, Asperger´s, ADD, ADHD and other learning differences. Students from Cumberland receive a strong academic education as well as extensive social skills training. Cumberland has a very supportive and positive atmosphere, and Haley, the therapy dog for the school, is a large part of the positive atmosphere. Haley greets each student every morning and helps students if they encounter difficult moments.
Recently, Haley received the award “Pet of the Month” from Atlanta Magazine. Haley´s picture will be in the Atlanta Magazine in the April edition. Students and staff were very excited for Haley to receive recognition for her work with the students and school. “It was an incredible honor to receive this award and we are beyond thrilled!” says Debbi Scarborough, Founder and Principal of Cumberland Academy of Georgia. The staff and faculty of Cumberland Academy of Georgia want to take the stress out of academic learning; therefore, all classes are taught with each individual student in mind. Cumberland Academy of Georgia strives to teach each student Georgia Academic Standards, utilizing their preferred learning style. The ultimate goal is for students to become independent, successful young adults. To reach this goal, the school is teaching students to demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills while working collaboratively in groups.
With a low student-to-teacher ratio, Cumberland Academy of Georgia is designed for the needs of many students who do not learn well in traditional settings. Cumberland Academy of Georgia is fully accredited and addresses the student´s academic, emotional and social concerns through nurturing, innovative and challenging programs.
