Detroit, MI (PRWEB) March 06, 2013
Local U.S. Green Building Council, Detroit Regional Chapter, Green Schools Advocacy Committee announces the kick-off of the 3rd annual My Green School Art Contest. Partnering with the Detroit Institute of Arts and local sponsors, this year´s contest is expected to reach more students throughout Michigan.
The contest was developed by the Green Schools Advocacy Committee as one of their many programs to teach children in Michigan schools how a green school can positively impact their lives, their community and the environment.
“We are excited to announce the 3rd annual My Green School Contest”, said Connie Lilley, contest organizer and committee volunteer. “Every year we are amazed at the artistic ability, but more importantly, we can see that more and more students are learning the value of a green school and what it means to them.”
Last year´s winners came from many different cities including Detroit, Dearborn, Huntington Woods, Troy, Rochester, Hartland, Bloomfield Hills and Paw Paw. Students can enter on their own, or through their school.
“I am excited to be a judge for this year´s contest,” said Byron Nemela, Studio Instructor, Department of Learning & Interpretation at Detroit Institute of Arts. “The DIA is proud to be a part of an event that combines the promotion of art and green schools.”
Finalists will be recognized and winners announced at the MI Earth Day Fest Kickoff & Awards Ceremony, to be held at the event´s main stage at 7 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 in downtown Rochester. “We are very pleased to provide the site for the contest´s awards ceremony and to display the winning art work for thousands of festival-goers to enjoy,” said John Batdorf, festival manager. “We recognize the vital importance of educating kids about sustainability and we will continue to support this program.”
