Multiple Skechers Lawsuits Filed on Behalf of Consumers Who Tore Major Ligaments and Tendons Allegedly Due to Unstable Design of Shape-Ups, Reports Wright & Schulte

Skechers Ligament & Tendon Injuries
According to the complaints for all of these cases, consumers were allegedly wearing their toning shoes when the inherently unstable rocker bottom of the shoe caused them to fall and tear major ligaments and tendons in their joints.
A woman from Strongsville, Ohio (Case No. 3:13-cv-00085) has filed a Skechers lawsuit alleging that the unstable rocker bottoms of Shape-Ups caused her to tear her ACL (a major knee ligament) in half. A complaint filed by a Meridian, Mississippi woman (Case No. 3:13-cv-00105) contends that unstable Shape-Ups caused her to fall and tear a ligament in her right knee. A third complaint alleges that a woman from Mississippi (Case No. 3:13-cv-00121) twisted her knee and tore various ligaments and tendons in her knee, which required surgery, after walking in unstable Skechers toning shoes.
Two additional Skechers lawsuits filed by Wright & Schulte allege that plaintiffs have suffered from other types of ligament and tendon tears due to wearing unsafe Shape-Ups. While one claim from a North Carolina woman alleges that wearing Shape-Ups caused her to completely tear her left Achilles tendon (Case No. 3:13-cv-00110), another Skechers injury lawsuit filed by an Indiana woman (Case No. 3:13-cv-00123) contends that wearing Shape-Ups caused her to tear her rotator cuff, a combination of major ligaments and tendons in the shoulder; this plaintiff also dislocated and fractured her shoulder allegedly due to wearing Shape-Ups.
Skechers Lawsuits Continue to Rise Even after $40 Million Settlement with FTC
Skechers complaints filed to date argue that “the health risks of Skechers outweigh the absence of any benefit provided to [individuals who wear Shape-Ups].” Specifically, court documents allege that Skechers purposely misrepresented the health benefits of these toning shoes [http://www.nbcnews.com/business/skechers-pay-40-million-over-deceptive-ads-775405 and that Skechers failed to conduct adequate safety testing on Shape-Ups.
In May 2012, courts agreed with these allegations of Skechers negligence and ordered the company to pay the Federal Trade Commission $40 million. As part of this ruling, the court found that Skechers had overstated the health benefits of Shape-Ups, failed to alert consumers about the possible risks associated with these toning shoes and failed to perform adequate safety testing on Shape-Ups.
