Extreme Power Efficiency Brings ‘Install-&-Forget’ to Internet of Things
New Anagear ANG1002 Extreme PMIC enables maximum energy savings in wireless sensor nodes
Rosmalen, Netherlands (PRWEB) March 19, 2013
Anagear, specialists in ultra-low power semiconductor solutions, today announced the introduction of the latest member of its smart power management IC (PMIC) family, the ANG1002 Extreme. This exceptionally low power device reduces current consumption for Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) to a mere 250 nA in standby mode. The ANG1002 offers a better than three times energy efficiency saving than conventional battery-powered WSNs based on today´s ultra-low power components, helping power the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution.
Anagear´s PMICs open up a new approach to node design that delivers energy savings without compromising the customer´s microcontroller preference. As the PMIC handles duty cycle timing and is capable of completely cutting off the power to the other system components, it is the only device to draw current when the node is in standby mode. The PMIC also reduces the node´s power consumption in active mode through highly efficient voltage conversion and programmable output voltage scaling. And being smart enough to handle simple data processing, means only the PMIC needs to wake up for every measurement.
The ANG1002 Extreme takes Anagear´s power consumption approach to a record low, enabling WSNs to operate for many years on a single lithium button-cell. Key to this ultra-low power usage is the on-chip silicon oscillator. This low-frequency oscillator delivers a significant boost to energy efficiency yet offers sufficient duty cycle timing accuracy for many of the extraordinarily small and in some cases unseen sensor nodes at the heart of the IoT.
“The ANG1002 Extreme demonstrates the inherent benefits of Anagear´s smart PMIC design for ultra low power solutions,” said Guus Dhaeze, vice president, sales and marketing, Anagear. “As with all the devices in our PMIC family, the ANG1002 Extreme achieves smart power management through an innovative blend of ultra-low power functionality. But with just 250 nA in standby mode and only 50 nA in deep-sleep mode, the ANG1002 gives node designers more freedom in balancing power consumption and system performance.”
Among the other functionality of the ANG1002 Extreme is its unique chip-ID number that can be used to generate a node-ID in a mesh network topology, enhance security in wireless applications and support RTLS (Real Time Location Sensing) applications. The ANG1002 also offers autonomous monitoring of system critical parameters and remaining energy levels. In addition the deep sleep mode ensures batteries are not drained during the time a product sits on the shelf.
Pricing and availability
The ANG1002 is available for ordering and unit pricing starts at 1.95 for 1k quantities.
Established in 2009, Anagear is a privately held, mixed-signal semiconductor company offering innovative, fully integrated solutions for electronic systems where ultra-low power consumption is mandatory. From its company headquarters in The Netherlands, Anagear develops and markets smart power management components that significantly extend the battery lifetime of (portable) electronic equipment. In combination with built-in, optimized energy harvesting capabilities and efficient energy storage management, Anagear´s products also enable clean-tech and environmental friendly applications powered by alternative energy sources. Because Anagear´s products are user-configurable they fit a wide variety of different applications that include building automation, security, wireless sensor nodes, industrial, automated metering, portable health care and self-powered equipment.
