Reliance Foundry Releases New Line of Retractable Bollards That Provide Increased Durability
316 Stainless steel construction will allow the new bollards to be used in more adverse environments than previous models.

Reliance Foundry Co. Ltd., North America´s premier supplier of bollards, bike racks, and custom castings, announced today that it will be adding four new models to its line of retractable bollards, allowing the sleek access control devices to be used in more applications than ever before. Retractable bollards are convenient access control devices and today´s introduction of new models will spell out an increase in potential use. Effectively doubling the product line, every standard retractable bollard will now also be offered in 316 stainless steel for increased resiliency in coastal environments and applications where chemicals or higher levels of moisture may present a concern.
“Retractable bollards are mechanical devices that are susceptible to the demands of the environment in which they are installed,” says Len Cranmore, Product Manager at Reliance Foundry. “Retractable bollards constructed from 304 standard steel are suitable for typical DRY, North American climates, but the increased corrosion-resistance provided by the 316 stainless steel will allow the new models to be used in many more areas.”
Retractable bollards are collapsed into a receiver that sits below the concrete surface. Because they spend much of their time below ground, they are extremely susceptible to the environmental conditions of a site. If water is allowed to pool or stand in a receiver, it can have detrimental effects on the structural integrity of the retractable bollard. 304 stainless steel will perform well in areas that are exposed to mid-range levels of moisture but may be damaged in more intense environments. Reliance Foundry´s new additions to the retractable bollard line are constructed from high-quality 316 stainless steel to provide the ultimate in environmental durability. Often called “marine-grade,” 316 stainless steel is known for its resistance to corrosion and its ability to withstand exposure to greater levels of moisture. The new 316 stainless steel models have opened the retractable bollard line to a whole new range of applications to which the original models may not have been suited. The tougher composition of the 316 bollards will offer greater resiliency in coastal environments and areas where de-icing chemicals or stronger-than- normal cleaning agents are frequently used. Although it may be susceptible to rusting in extreme environments, 316 stainless steel will stand where other materials may fail.
“Retractable bollards are more prone to damage from the elements and chemicals simply because they are stored beneath a concrete surface,” says Reliance Foundry´s Vice president of Sales and Marketing, Brad Done. “Our new 316 stainless steel models are suited for more intense environments where they will offer an exceptional level of protection from water, de-icing salts, harmful cleaning agents and almost anything else that may find its way into the bollard´s receiver.”
Reliance Foundry offers four models of retractable bollards composed of 316 stainless stee that are now available for purchase online. Corresponding models of retractable and removable bollards are also available to match the exact requirements of any site. Retractable bollards are Reliance Foundry´s premier line of changing access bollard. They are mounted with a sleek receiver and they do not require the additional storage space of removable bollards.
