According to a April 3, 2013 Fox News Magazine article, a number of celebrities are claiming that a fountain of youth lies within the oxygen that individuals breathe in on a daily basis. The oxygen facial counts Madonna as one of its fans, and its popularity has grown among women who are interested in combating the visual signs of aging such as wrinkles and skin discoloration (Go to: goo.gl/5PEok).

“As reported in the article, some form of oxygen facial has been available for a decade or more,” says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. “And, also as noted in the report, there´s no data that supports the claims of benefit ascribed to these facials.”

The oxygen facial involves applying a customized serum, acid and pressurized oxygen to the skin as a means of revealing skin that is younger-looking and plumper. The oxygen facial is said to produce youthful, healthy looking skin in addition to protecting and reversing damages from environmental pollutants. The damage that can result from exposure to sun-rays and environmental pollutants are well-documented.

As individuals age, their bodies have less capacity to promptly absorb the oxygen that is in the blood into the skin. This results in issues such as a reduction in the production of elastin and collagen in the skin, which leads to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

As reported, the treatment is said to enhance the overall texture of the skin, making it feel smoother. In its pressurized state the oxygen assists the skin in absorbing the nutrients and vitamins of customized serums.

“Frankly, I´m not sure oxygen facials offer much of a benefit,” concludes Dr. Ourian. “And, the benefit, if any, is likely to be transitory.”

Dr. Ourian has been a pioneer in laser technology and non-invasive aesthetic procedures including Restylane, Juvéderm, Radiesse and Sculptra. These treatments are used for the correction or reversal of a variety of conditions such as acne, acne scars, skin discoloration, wrinkles, stretch marks, varicose veins, cellulite, and others. More information about the oxygen facial can be found on Epione´s website.
