PassedOn (http://www.passed-on.com), the world´s first platform for the creation of free multimedia Emotional Wills (“eWills”), has sent search engine giant Google scrambling to catch up with the service´s innovative operating system.
The “Digital Footprint Manager,” one of PassedOn´s features since this past December, is designed to safeguard any information, social media accounts or files the user deems valuable. In the event something happens to this user, PassedOn or a pre-assigned individual swiftly assume control over these documents and proceed with the maintenance and/or deletion of this data. Two weeks ago, Google introduced their copy of the feature, titling it the “Inactive Account Manager.” While their version bears a different name, the feature is inarguably similar in purpose and function, but for Google Applications only.
With more people putting information online than ever before, it has become an increasing generational concern what will become of one´s sensitive documents, files and accounts once he or she is no longer capable of caring for them. Along with the peace of mind PassedOn´s service gives to the friends and family of the user, the site´s Digital Footprint Manager deletes all existing social media accounts (including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) to further alleviate the grief of one´s passing.
Marc Oparq, founder of PassedOn, had the following to say about Google´s newest add-on: “It does not come as a surprise that Google was inspired enough to implement their own version of our feature, as our Digital Footprint Manager is a very necessary tool for people who are active online. However, to come from a self-funded website that no one had heard of half a year ago to being able to influence a multi-billion dollar company “¦ it is a nice feeling. As they say, ℠Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.´ ”
The feature is just one example out of an extensive array of private and emotional management tools found on PassedOn. Since the website´s launch six months ago, PassedOn has dedicated itself to providing the world an outlet to save life´s most precious memories, thoughts and recollections. Intended for International use, the website is currently available in the 17 languages: English, Chinese, German, Vietnamese, French, Spanish, Malaysian, Mongolian, Dutch, Slovenian, Czech, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Norwegian, Thai and Tagalog. As a result of the site´s multinational efforts, the website reached over 110,000 active members in 102 countries last month.
We all have important wishes and thoughts for our Loved Ones. Whether it´s a personal message from the heart, a love confession, a late apology or a long-kept secret: PassedOn is a free web-based global initiative for those who wish to create multimedia eWills (Emotional Wills) and save unforgettable moments for the people they love.
