Following The May 25th 2013 article about Protesters Across the Globe Rally Against Monsanto in Time.com, The Futon Shop offers an opinion about all consumers having the right to know what is inside their food, mattresses, makeup, or anything else they purchase. As much as people think facebook is a waste of time, one women used facebook as a stepping stone to gain power from word of mouth to fight and March against Monsanto. Founder and organizer Tami Canal created a facebook page on Feb. 28, 2013 calling for a rally against Monsanto. As a result, much to her surprise, protesters rallied in many cities around the world. In fact, rallies were known to be held in more than 52 countries. They were marching against Monsanto, which is a company that produces a seed that genetically modifies corn, soybean, and cotton.

According to the article, GMO´s can cause serious health problems and harm to the environment. Also, the article emphasized that the GMO issue has been a growing issue from health advocates pushing for mandatory labeling of genetically modified products, even though the federal government and many scientist say the technology is safe.

Founder Canal says “It was empowering and inspiring to see so many people, from different walks of life, put aside their differences and come together today,” and says she will work to continue her fight for the anti- GMO cause.

The Futon shop believes in the same fight and sentiment Canal quotes saying, “they are poisoning our children, poisoning our planet, if we don´t act, who´s going to.”

Even though there is a great fight and debate over the dangers of GMO created products from Monsanto, the company holds their opinion that people have a right to voice their concerns and opinions, but continues to strongly speak out that their seed improves agriculture by helping farmers produce more from thier land while conserving resources such as water and energy.

The Futon Shop, one of the largest organic futon mattress manufacturers in America has built a large following of consumers who desire no pesticide, chemical, or flame retardant in their mattresses and bedding. Part of The Futon Shop´s message to their consumers is to fight for you right to know what is in mattresses. The Futon Shop clearly lets their consumers know what the ingredients that are in their mattresses and gives consumers the opportunity to ask questions, leaving an open conversation between the company and consumer. It is crucial that companies give the knowledge and truth to their consumers. The Futon Shop customers, much like Canal and all the protesters fighting for labeling of all GMO products just want the best for their families. Each consumer has the right to protect their children and themselves from dangers in their environment. When it comes to what what one puts in their mouth for nutrition and what one sleeps on for a good night sleep, companies have a responsibility to label and let consumers know what they are purchasing.
