3,700 Guests of Honor in Long Island, N.Y., Served Through Convoy of Hope

$1 Million in Goods and Services Provided in Single Day

Convoy of Hope´s Community Outreach Tour continued Saturday in Uniondale, N.Y., providing 3,762 guests of honor with essential services including: thousands of pounds of free groceries, haircuts, family portraits, health screenings and more that culminated in $1 million in goods and services to the less fortunate in the Long Island area.

“Because there are 46 million Americans currently living in poverty, Convoy of Hope has determined to bring help and hope to communities throughout the nation,” says Ron Showers, community outreach director. “With the help of our partners we were able to do that in Long Island.”

More than 1,400 volunteers and 119 local organizations, churches and agencies were essential partners in the event held at two locations – Mitchell Field and Campbell Park in Uniondale. Convoy of Hope´s partner, Samaritan´s Feet, gave away 1,700 pairs of shoes to the less fortunate while partner, Shoes for All, gave away an additional 3,200 pairs. Bove’s Pasta donated 35,000 pounds of pasta sauce in jars which was distributed to guests.

Convoy of Hope´s 50-state tour stopped in 22 states in 2012 and continues through 2013.
