Breaking down emotional health barriers

Melbourne, Austrailia (PRWEB) June 26, 2013

There is an undeniable link between emotions and health. Dr. Reuben Phiri, a family physician, explains how positive thought can improve one’s physical well-being.

In his new book, Breaking the Emotional Health Barriers, he also warns of the opposite effect, cautioning that people who think negatively often live in unhealthy bodies. Phiri tells of how illnesses such as high blood pressure, anxiety and obesity have a strong emotional basis and often cannot be cured until psychological issues are addressed.

“We have a subconscious mind so powerful that it can literally change your state of health overnight,” says Phiri.

The subconscious mind is the foundation of faith based healing. Believers advocate that mood influences all aspects of life and that managing stress is vital to an individual’s health. Phiri details how emotion and positive thinking can help an individual reach their fitness goals.

“Weight loss is almost always virtually impossible if the emotional issues surrounding obesity are not addressed,” says Phiri. “Positive emotions are essential when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off.”

It is Phiri’s hope that sharing his experience as a family physician and holistic health professional through the book will ultimately help individuals lead healthier and happier lives. Breaking the Emotional Health Barriers sheds light on how one can use positive thought to improve body type, anxiety, relationships and even sex life.

“This book seeks to show how you can take charge of your emotions and lead a healthier life, in everyday, easily understood language,” says Phiri. “Most often, it is necessary to first deal with the beliefs and emotions before the healing process can start,”

Dr. Phiri’s goal is to help readers learn how to stay healthy through positive thinking, rather than setting oneself up for sickness.

About the author

Dr. Phiri graduated from the University of Zimbabwe medical school in 1986 and began practicing as an eye specialist and family medicine practitioner. Through patient interaction, he made the discovery that health is largely determined by life choices and emotional well-being. In 2002, he moved to Melbourne Australia to pursue a PHD. Due to turmoil in his native Zimbabwe, he was unable to move back and chose instead to settle down in Melbourne as a family medicine specialist.
