Hartford, Connecticut (PRWEB) June 28, 2013

Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery™, a leading national nonprofit organization that promotes recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction through advocacy, education, and service, announced that it is hosting its 14th annual Recovery Walks! on Friday, September 27, 2013, from 10:00am-2:00pm in Bushnell Park, Hartford.

As in years past, Recovery Walks! is a celebration for those in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs as well as their families, friends, and allies. This year’s 2013 CCAR Recovery Walks! boasts an action-packed lineup, including speakers, arts and crafts, exhibitors, live music provided by Shaded Soul, and two all new exhibits featuring art from artists in recovery, as well as a photo gallery of people in recovery. In addition to walking, participants will speak out to put a face and voice on recovery.

For the first time, CCAR'S 14th annual Recovery Walks! will feature an Artists in Recovery Exhibit. Anyone in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs can submit original artwork to be displayed. CCAR’s mission is to put a face and voice on recovery through this annual event, and will further show the possibilities and power of recovery through this exciting exhibit.

Also new to the 14th annual Recovery Walks! will be the Putting a Face on Recovery Photo Exhibit, in which CCAR will display lifestyle photographs of people in recovery, depicting them as leading regular lives, without being defined by their addiction. For those who wish to submit photographs as part of this exhibit, instructions are available on CCAR’s Web site at http://www.ccar.us.

According to Phillip A. Valentine, Executive Director of CCAR and in recovery himself since 1987, “Each year, Recovery Walks! expands in size, scope, and impact…and this year will be no exception. With thousands expected to participate, including people in recovery, family members, friends, allies, and those from the general public, they will proclaim the message of hope that recovery is possible along with the ability to live long, productive lives, free from alcohol and other drugs.” Mr. Valentine continued, “Once again, CCAR is so proud to host this event, and is delighted to provide services and connect people to resources that empower the addicted to heal and inspire hope.”

Recovery Walks! is a free event, and everyone is welcome to attend. Participants can register online, start a walk team, or make a donation at http://www.firstgiving.com/ccar/14th-annual-recovery-walks. More information is available on CCAR’s Web site.
