Dermatologist, Dr. Brandith Irwin, talks about the meaning of beauty, where it is found, and how it is recognized in her new video “Finding Your Unique Beauty”.
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 04, 2013
Dr. Brandith Irwin informs patients about the latest news in skin care and anti-aging. In her latest video on YouTube.com, the Seattle dermatologist and owner of Skintour.com discussed the ever-changing definition of beauty.
"What is beauty? Beauty has always been culturally defined. In other words, it depends on what country, what ethnicity, what age, what period in history. If we look at the way we define beauty now, it's much more inclusive than what it used to be," said Dr. Irwin.
Even though our definition of beauty has expanded in recent years, Dr. Irwin suggests that many people still feel a need to fit a certain mold of what they think is beautiful. Individuals undergo extensive surgeries or procedures or take images from magazine covers or reality shows so that they can look like their favorite celebrities instead of finding their own unique beauty. Inspiration regarding one’s own true beauty comes from within and leads to more enduring happiness and self esteem.
Although beauty ideals are evolving, age is still a barrier for patients when it comes to feeling happy in their own skin. As individuals age, they may want to alleviate physical concerns like fine lines or wrinkles. And while fillers like Botox or Juvederm can help enhance one's happiness by raising self-confidence, people who focus on looking like someone else, like a celebrity, may wind up feeling displeased or even insecure. Dr. Irwin has often wondered why patients fail to see their own beauty when it's so clear to her and to others.
“At the end of the day, if I could wish for anything in this realm, I would wish for an appreciation for the unique beauty in each individual, and have us not try to necessarily mimic someone else's beauty…It's really in our own individual beauty that our own spirit and soul shine through,” explained Dr. Irwin.
Unlike most prominent dermatologists, Dr. Irwin has no financial ties to any skin care manufacturer or laser company. She does not sit on any boards, act as a spokesperson, accept any fees, or endorse any line of cosmetics. She is a board-certified dermatologist who practices in Seattle, WA, at the practice she founded, Madison Skin & Laser Center. Additionally, she has published multiple anti-aging books, the most recent titled, “The Surgery-Free Makeover: All You Need To Know For Great Skin And A Younger Face.”
