Texas Energy Technology Company Advances with DOE Research Award
GeoTek is developing the Gravity Head Energy System to eliminate pumps and motors typically needed in binary geothermal energy production, as well as a sub-surface Gravity Head pump for use in geothermal wells and moderate to high temperature oil wells. The U.S. DOE has just agreed to provide further financial support of this energy efficient technology.

GEOTEK ENERGY, LLC, a geothermal power and downhole pump technology leader, is pleased to announce approval by the Department of Energy for reimbursement of up to $1.08Million for the fabrication and initial testing of its Gravity Head Energy System (“GHES”). Dave Marshall, CEO, explained that “GeoTek completed last year the first of three phases in the DOE program, under budget.” The third phase of this $2.85Million DOE research award is expected to commence next year with an additional $1.32Million in potential funding for GHES field tests. GeoTek (http://www.geotekenergy.com) is required to supplement these DOE cost-share research funds with private capital which GeoTek is currently raising.
GeoTek’s patent pending Gravity Head Energy System (“GHES”) improves current geothermal power systems by reducing the use of production and cycle pumps that require frequent service and consume up to 35% of the produced electricity. GHES offers advantages beyond the elimination of these parasitic pump loads through improved efficiencies, reduced environmental impacts and accelerating the initial production of electricity. GeoTek’s geothermal technology is a compact, well-based power system which occupies less surface area by eliminating the large central power plants and associated piping. GHES also supports development of isolated geothermal resources which is important for developing countries. OTHER GEOTEK TECHNOLOGY
GeoTek is also developing a sub-surface pump, the Gravity Head Pump or GHP, for replacement of pumps in geothermal power wells and moderate to high temperature oil wells. The GHP is based on an expander drive technology, is designed to tolerate high temperatures and will feature a wire-line retrievable pump to minimize service downtime. GeoTek is seeking industry partners to assist in development of the Gravity Head Pump technology.
