Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) August 05, 2013
Cheap Concert Tickets has slashed prices across the board on Indians vs. Tigers tickets for the series at Progressive Field between August 5th and August 8th.
Currently in Major League Baseball, there are four divisional races that are separated by three games or less and one of them is in the American League Central. The Detroit Tigers are the usual suspects at the top, but it is the second place team that is creating a stir around the league. This team hasn't been to a World Series since 1995 but is hoping to make it deep into the postseason this season. The second place team in the AL Central is none other than the Cleveland Indians.
With just three games between these teams for first and second place, one would expect all the talk around the series to involve that. Instead, much like the rest of the baseball world, all the talk is about the MLB performance enhancing drug scandal – a scandal that will cause Tigers' shortstop Johnny Peralta to miss 50 games starting with this series – and the effect it has on the sport of baseball.
America's favorite pastime must go on and this three game series being contested in Cleveland will make it a long way in determining who wins the division when each team has played 162 games. Coming into the series, the Tigers have won 9-of12 games between these two rivals, but with the Indians playing hot and the Tigers losing one of their biggest offensive stars, this could be the chance the Indians have needed to break through.
In the opening game of the series, the first place Tigers (64-45, 9-1 in last 10) will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound to take on Corey Kluber and the Indians (62-49, 9-1 in last 10). Sanchez has been one of the unsung heroes for the Tigers this season, going 9-7 with a 2.59 ERA but has been the victim of poor run support and in some cases, had bad luck.
The 27-year-old Kluber has been stellar for the Indians and is a major reason why they are playing so well this season. In 20 games (18 starts), Kluber is 7-5 with a 3.77 ERA, but one of the most impressive things about Kluber is his strikeout to walk ratio. He has a ratio of 110:25, which many would consider a remarkable feat for a young and inexperienced player.
With AL baseball, it can't only be about the pitching. Offensively, the Tigers have scored the second most runs in baseball, trailing only the Boston Red Sox. They are led by perennial Triple Crown candidate Miguel Cabrera (.360, 32 HR, 99 RBIs), but he has made just one start since July 28 and has just seven hits in his last 10. He will return to the starting lineup in the series.
The Indians are led on the offensive side by a trio of stars who contribute to their success equally. Jason Kipnis leads the team in average, home runs and RBIs (.295, 15, 68), but has been joined by Michael Bourn (.282, 16 stolen bases) and Carlos Santana (.272, 12 HR, 27 2B, 48 RBIs) as the offensive leaders.
There is a lot of baseball still left to play, but this is a series that the Indians are hoping forces the Tigers to see that they won't run away with the division this season.
