Stryker Hip Recall
Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems were subject to a worldwide recall in July 2012, after post-market surveillance data indicated the metal components were prone to fretting and corrosion at the modular neck junction. According to the Stryker hip recall notice, patients fitted with these implants could be at risk for pain, swelling and adverse local tissue reactions which may require revision surgery to replace the failing hip. After receiving reports that some asymptomatic Rejuvenate and ABG II patients had developed local tissue reactions, Stryker advised all individuals fitted with the components to undergo blood testing and cross sectional imaging, regardless of their symptoms, to ensure the hips were functioning properly.*
According to a Case List issued by the Court on August 13, 306 Stryker hip lawsuits have been filed by recipients of Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems in the New Jersey litigation. Court documents indicate that at least 198 similar claims have been filed in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. (In re: Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2441) All of the plaintiffs with cases pending in these proceedings are alleged to have suffered serious complications, including metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis, and failure of the hip, as a result of toxic metal debris shed from the recalled hip stems.
Individuals who experienced serious injuries allegedly related to fretting and corrosion of Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems may be eligible to file a Stryker hip lawsuit seeking compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
