Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits
According to court documents, more than 20,000 vaginal mesh lawsuits are pending in the Southern District of West Virginia. Plaintiffs who have filed claims in the proceedings allege that that the use of transvaginal mesh products caused women to suffer serious vaginal mesh complications, including mesh erosion, scarring, infection, and chronic pain. Court records indicate that the federal litigation recently held its first trial of a transvaginal mesh lawsuit, which concluded on August 15th with the jury awarding $2 million in compensatory and punitive damages to a woman who was injured by C.R. Bard’s Avaulta Plus device. (Cisson v. C.R. Bard Inc., 11-cv-00195) The litigation’s second C.R. Bard trial was to commence the following week, but the case settled the same day opening arguments were to be delivered. Terms of the vaginal mesh settlement have not been disclosed. (Queen v. C.R. Bard Inc., 11-cv-00012)
