Karen Bostick, Creator and CEO of PetsPage.com launched her “Make Tinks Famous” crowdfunding campaign today on Indiegogo to seek support for a national campaign aimed at educating pet owners and the community on the importance of veterinary specialty medicine in saving pets’ lives. The documentary will focus on Tinks’ Story (See video included with this press release) and Bostick’s mission of increasing pet owner awareness of vet specialists while encouraging general vets to work together with a specialist to ensure the best possible outcome for our pets.
In her "Make Tinks Famous" Crowdfunding Campaign, Bostick is seeking 3,000 Tinks Fans among her 300,000 plus social media followers that would like to see Tinks on national television to contribute to the campaign. The First 3,000 Tinks' Fans to contribute at least $5 will receive a numbered Tinks' Fan Supporter Badge. Other perks and rewards at various support levels include I Love Tinks' T-Shirts, Coffee Mugs, gift certificates to Tinks Shop on PetsPage.com and more.
Bostick is also seeking funds from the veterinary industry as well with hopes that any additional funds raised will allow her to distribute the Public Service Announcement throughout local and regional television networks to aid her efforts in creating awareness of vet specialists.
Tinks’ Story is heart wrenching with a happy ending. Karen's beloved little dog, Tinks, almost died because Karen wasn't referred to a veterinary specialist who had the advanced training and treatment options to save Tinks’ Life. Finally, with Tinks at death’s doorstep, Karen and Tinks received a referral to a veterinary specialist and today, Tinks is happy and healthy.
Believing it was wrong for the general vet to not have referred Tinks to a veterinary specialist much earlier, Bostick has made it her job to bring awareness of veterinary specialty medicine to pet lovers everywhere and educate them on how to advocate for their pets health by seeking referrals to veterinary specialist when appropriate.
Touched by Tinks’ Story and Bostick’s passion for her mission and believing it was a compelling human interest story with a message that needs to be heard by all pet lovers, Outlook Television, a leader in the production of public television programming contacted Bostick about sharing Tinks’ Story and her mission with over 60 million public television viewers. The documentary will air for a full year in 2014 on public television stations across the USA and will include a 1 minute public service announcement that will air on Animal Planet in various regional networks throughout the country.
The documentary will be narrated by academy award winning actor, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), who is also currently starring in Enders Game with Harrison Ford. Note: Kingsley’s participation in the documentary does not imply directly or indirectly an endorsement of PetsPage or any of the other participants in the documentary. Kingsley does not endorse private companies included in Outlook Television’s documentaries that he narrates.
In addition to Karen Bostick and Tinks, the documentary will feature some of the most respected board certified veterinary specialists in the country, including Dr. Sue Ettinger, DVM, DACVIM (veterinary oncology) “Dr. Sue Cancer Vet,” one of the world’s leading pet cancer specialists who has recently proposed “See Something, Do Something” national pet cancer guidelines aimed at reducing the number of cancer related pet deaths, Dr. Victoria Ochoa, DVM, MS, DACVIM, a board certified veterinary internist, who was Tinks treating veterinary specialist, Dr. Carrie Breaux, DVM, MVSC, DACVO, a veterinary ophthalmologist and Dr. Andrew Gendler, DVM, DACVR, a veterinary radiologist.
“I am so excited to have launched our Make Tinks Famous Crowdfunding Campaign. I am positive that sharing Tinks’ Story to over 60 million public television viewers and more throughout our national television campaign will go a long way in improving the relationships between pet owners, general vets and veterinary specialists. This opportunity is once in a lifetime for us and I’m confident that with Tinks Fans’ and the veterinary industry’s support, I’ll be able to make this dream a reality.
