St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 15, 2013

“Stryker Hip Lawsuit News: The Simon Law Firm, P.C., notes recent $4 billion settlement of DePuy hip implant cases and how that could impact Stryker hip implant litigation.”

The Simon Law Firm represents patients who have been injured by metal-on-metal hip implants manufactured by Stryker Corporation. These cases are currently pending in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota, MDL No. 13-2441, wherein the Court issued its fifth pre-trial order on November 5, 2013 regarding the organizational structure for plaintiffs and defendants (http://www.mnd.uscourts.gov/MDL-Stryker/orders-minutes.shtml).

Significantly, in a related action, Johnson & Johnson will pay more than $4 billion to settle thousands of defective hip implant lawsuits, according to an article published in the Chicago Tribune on November 13, 2013 (http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-johnson-johnson-hip-implant-lawsuit-20131113,0,4176921.story). This settlement will resolve more than 7,500 lawsuits against J&J's hip manufacturing entity DePuy Orthopedics brought by patients who had the defective hip implant. DePuy recalled thousands of its metal ASR hip implants due to significant failure rates. Metal-on-metal hip implants can shed metallic debris, potentially damaging bone and soft tissue, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“Because the design defect of Stryker’s Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implants is similar to the defective design of DePuy’s ASR hip implant and because both were recalled, we believe the settlement result obtained in the DePuy hip litigation is a good indicator for how the Stryker hip cases could be resolved in favor of our injured clients,” according to attorney Ryan Keane of The Simon Law Firm.
