Brian Cuban, author of the best selling book, Shattered Image, My Triumph Over Body Dysmorphic Disorder and brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank entrepreneur, Mark Cuban, discusses his twenty-seven year struggle with anorexia and bulimia during a segment of "Katie" on Tuesday, Nov. 19. A nationally syndicated talk show, "Katie" is hosted by award-winning journalist and TV personality Katie Couric. Please check your local listings for airtime in your area.
The segment features Brian discussing his lifelong struggle with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a disease in which the sufferer is preoccupied with a distorted sense of self -image and is often afflicted with depression, addiction, and eating disorders, affecting as much as 2 percent of the population.
In Brian’s case, it resulted in a twenty-seven year battle with anorexia, bulimia, alcohol and drug addiction, numerous body cosmetic procedures, as well as steroid abuse. “Breaking through the stigma and shame shrouding so many males into silence is key in getting more to realize they are not alone and there is a path to recovery,” said Brian.
Brian speaks regularly about Shattered Image and breaking the stigma surrounding male eating disorders, as well as the effect of bullying and fat shaming on children. He most recently keynoted the Entertainment Industries Council 3rd Annual Media And Mental Health Awards. He has been published on these topics on major sites such as CNN.com, Foxnews.com and The Huffington Post. For more information visit http://www.briancuban.com
