Hong Kong (PRWEB) January 22, 2014
China has been leading Asia’s growing involvement in the global nuclear industry. The country is on track in its plans to increase the amount of energy derived from nuclear power with its ambitious reactor-building programme, with China General Nuclear recently reporting in a Reuters report (China General Nuclear to start up 5 new reactors in 2014, Reuters, 15th January 2014) that it plans to put five nuclear units into operation in 2014, something even France and the United States have not done. Beyond its borders, China has also claimed a major coup by winning a bid to build United Kingdom’s Hinkley Point C plant in Somerset.
Besides the activity in China, other Asian countries contribute to making the region one of the few growth areas within the industry as countries like Germany, Italy and Japan either phase out or have plans to reduce their reliance on nuclear energy. Malaysia is currently undertaking feasibility, site selection and regulatory studies and contemplating construction of 2-4 reactors. In Vietnam , preparations underway for construction of the first NPP (VVER) in central Ninh Thuan Province, construction scheduled to commence in 2014, operational in 2020.
Join leading Asian and global nuclear stakeholders as they convene for the 2nd Annual Asia Nuclear Business Platform. Taking place in the financial capital of Asia, Hong Kong, from 26th to the 28th February 2014, Asia Nuclear Business Platform will see participants discuss nuclear sector developments such as the feasibility of financing options for new nuclear projects globally. Key nuclear financing stakeholders from both the private and public sector will be attending and giving their insights on the future of nuclear financing in Asia.
