New Social Platform Launches Nationally to Advance the Sharing Economy; Seeks Funding
Gifteng — "gift" and "engagement" — applies social networking to the age-old practice of giving.
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 12, 2014
Gifteng (http://www.gifteng.com), a new social community that connects people through the act of giving, is now open to users across the country.
The platform — whose name was derived from “gift” and “engagement” — uses the reach of today’s social networks to enable people to give away items they have but don’t need or acquire items they need but don’t have in a controlled, social way. Founded by a group of socially conscious designers and developers who endorse swapping over shopping, it promotes sustainable living by finding new uses for older items.
Since September, when it launched in private beta as an invitation-only service for New York City residents, Gifteng has facilitated the exchange of more than 1,000 gifts among approximately 1,600 users.
Using Gifteng is fun and easy. Users earn four requests for each gift they give through a points system called a Generosity Score, and it takes less than a minute to post a gift by using any smartphone. New gifts become available for request at noon EST., and users can share them via Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Up to three members in the Gifteng community can send requests and the giver selects the recipient. Pickup can be coordinated by private messaging, or the receiver can pre-pay for the shipping, which is a new feature unveiled with the national launch.
“The saying is true: One person’s trash really is another person’s treasure,” said co-founder Agota Correa. "Reducing consumption by decluttering or adopting a minimalist lifestyle has emotional and economic benefits. We all like giving and now you can get recognized based on what you give away on Gifteng.”
Gifteng is driven by a modern, easy-to-use design that functions as a web and mobile application. The platform also enables brands to market-test or promote products directly to target demographics. Built and based in New York, NY, Gifteng is a self-funded start-up that is currently seeking financing.
Give. Receive. Inspire. Gifteng is a new social community where you can give and receive things you love for free.
Built as an online marketplace where all the listings are free, it rewards generosity and helps save the environment by finding new uses for older items. It provides a platform where social interaction, trust, and contribution bring people together to rediscover the simplest form of exchange: person-to-person sharing. It also enables companies to attract customers or market-test new products. For more information visit: http://www.gifteng.com.
