Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) March 10, 2014

Pines Education Institute of Southwest Florida is bringing one of America's leading educators on dementia, Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, back to Sarasota for two seminars. The workshops, "Frontotemporal Dementia" and "Improving Hospital Stays for People with Dementia" will take place on March 25, 2014, at Pines of Sarasota.

Frontotemporal Dementias (FTDs), occurring in 10-15% of all dementia cases, manifests itself through a loss of impulse and behavior control. Rude, mean or odd statements, a reduction in speech and uninhibited behavior in relation to food, emotion, and sex make FTDs particularly challenging for families of those affected.

"Teepa Snow's unique blend of knowledge and compassion helps people understand that their loved one isn't intentionally being difficult or mean, but that those behaviors are symptoms of brain failure. For families that have been struggling, understanding this allows them not to take things personally and hopefully rebuild previously damaged relationships."

The second seminar will help families and professionals with making hospital stays more comfortable for people with dementia. "Hospitals can be frightening for them. Knowing how to prepare and how to create the most soothing environment for people with dementia is vital, for family caregivers and hospital staff alike, Mrs. Westbrook further explains.
