Westinghouse Awarded BWR Reactor Core Safety Systems Contract at TVO
Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it received a contract from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj to provide two new traversing incore probe systems for the two boiling water reactors at Olkiluoto, Finland. The systems are used to calibrate the Nuclear Reactor Power measurement. The contract will be executed jointly between Westinghouse and Toshiba Corporation.

Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it received a contract from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) to provide two new traversing incore probe (TIP) systems for the two boiling water reactors (BWR) at Olkiluoto, Finland. The systems are used to calibrate the Nuclear Reactor Power measurement. The contract will be executed jointly between Westinghouse and Toshiba Corporation.
Under the terms of the contract, performed by Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB, Westinghouse will manage the overall project, as well as perform the mechanical/electrical installation and commissioning. A majority of the equipment will be manufactured and assembled in Japan. A factory acceptance test is expected to be conducted in December 2015 prior to shipment.
The TIP system is used to calibrate incore neutron flux detectors which monitor the power levels and distribution in the units Olkiluoto 1 and 2. The TIP data, together with data from incore neutron flux detectors, is also used by the process computer to analyze the power distribution within the reactor core and determine whether thermal limits are being satisfied.
The project calls for the manufacture and installation of 28 new guide tubes and the provision of electrical installation and instrument and control (I&C) cubicles for control and measuring. The equipment is scheduled for delivery to the Olkiluoto reactors in Finland in January 2016, with installation scheduled during planned outages at Unit 1 in 2016 and Unit 2 in 2017.
