Don’t Let Stink Bugs Make You a Fool This April

Trap them now with the RESCUE!® Stink Bug Trap.

Stink bugs are no joke. When they wake from hibernation this spring they have only one thing on their mind: mating. Once they mate, two stink bugs become hundreds in a matter of weeks.

“April 1 is the start of the stink bug mating season,” says Rod Schneidmiller, president of Sterling International and developer of the environmentally responsible insect control line, RESCUE!®. “This is when their numbers begin to multiply exponentially, as a single female stink bug can lay up to 400 eggs over the course of a summer.”

Experts recommend trapping emerging stink bugs now when they're most vulnerable and before they begin to reproduce and ravage flowers and vegetables this summer.

“Early action to stop them from multiplying is critical in controlling stink bugs,” says Schneidmiller. “Once baby stink bugs start to mature, they have ravenous appetites and will eat everything from tomatoes and peppers to apples and peaches.”

What breaks the lifecycle and stops them from multiplying? The RESCUE!® Stink Bug Trap. New, patented pheromone attractants lure and trap stink bugs from up to 30 feet away.

“The myth that traps lure stink bugs from miles away is not true,” Schneidmiller explains. “When they’re hungry, they’ll find your yard and garden if there’s something for them to eat.”

The key is to start early, Schneidmiller says. “If you wait until you have thousands of stink bugs around your home in the fall, you’re not going to be able to wipe out a large population.”

The best place for the RESCUE!® Stink Bug Trap in spring is a tree where emerging bugs will head to mate, usually one that has sprouted new spring leaves. If such a tree is not available, hang the trap from a fence, stake or post.

Schneidmiller suggests spacing traps every 20 to 30 feet around the perimeter of your garden to provide protection from flying adult stink bugs throughout the growing season.

For every female stink bug trapped during mating season, up to 400 stink bugs that would mature into adulthood are eliminated. By placing the RESCUE!® Stink Bug Trap outdoors on April 1, homeowners are taking a preemptive strike against stink bugs and stopping their life cycle entirely.
