Spring Event to Feature Wine and Tapas along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail

Small Plates event offers ultimate culinary experience of regional wines and fare in the tasting rooms and vineyards of Leelanau Peninsula.

The Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail reintroduces Small Plates, a once-wildly popular series of upscale wine and food pairings along the trail. This event was hosted once already to critical acclaim and, therefore, will take place again on Friday, May 30. Participants enjoy a full glass of wine paired with a well-presented and substantial tapas dish in the tasting rooms or vineyards of participating wineries.

Many of the wineries work with local chefs to prepare and serve the pairing, offering an ultimate food and wine experience, catering to culinary aficionados.

"Small Plates is a favorite for foodies," shares Lorri Hathway, Director of the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail. "It's a fantastic way to experience the wines grown on the peninsula."

Seatings at each location are available at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm, and 8:00 pm; seatings are $15 each and one, two or three seatings can be selected for each evening.

On May 30, the following wineries are serving the following options:

Bel Lago Vineyard & Winery: Grilled risotto cake with pork tenderloin noisettes,seasonal asparagus and fresh tarragon aioli, paired with Bel Lago 2012 North Vineyard Pinot Noir.

Black Star Farms: Chicken and morel mushroom mezzalune with smoked butter, parmesan, basil and wild leeks, paired with a new spring release wine

Chateau Fontaine: Bolognese Ragu with handmade Pappardelle Pasta, paired with Pinot Noir or Laughing Waters Dry Rose

Ciccone Vineyard & Winery: Beef Spiedine (Sirloin cut beef rolls stuffed with breadcrumbs, pine nuts, raisins, cheese and cured prosciutto) and Luganega Sausage (Pepe Nero Signature dish, a traditional Italian Mild Pork Sausage) with Pinot Noir 2012

Gill’s Pier Vineyard and Winery: Carnitas de cerdo con papa: Roasted Pulled Pork (marinated with tamarind) and mix with potatoes and peppers/pineapple paired with 2013 Riesling, Arroz con palmetto: paired 2012 Royce

Shady Lane Cellars: The Tapas Table: Serrano Ham , Sizzled Sausages, Catalan Roasted Vegetable Salad, Piquillo Peppers Stuffed with Creamed Feta, Oil Cured Manchego Cheese, Grilled Tomato Garlic Bread, Fresh Melon, Marcona Almonds, Olives paired with 2012 Dry Riesling and 2011 Franc ‘n’ Franc (Blaufrankisch & Cab Franc blend)

Verterra Winery: Char-grilled scallops over a hot bacon arugula salad paired with our Gold medal winning Pinot Blanc.
