6 Dead in Crash of Alaskan Charter Plane

Posted on: Sunday, 6 January 2008, 09:00 CST

A charter plane crashed within minutes of taking off from the airport in Kodiak, Alaska, killing six people and injuring four.

The plane operated by Servant Air traveled only about 50 yards Saturday before plunging into the icy harbor, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Five people were pulled alive from the frigid waters, however, one later died in a hospital, the newspaper said.

The nine passengers were reportedly en route to their homes in Homer from a Kodiak fishing trip.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
