Roundup of Violence in Iraq

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. All times are Iraq local times.

BAGHDAD

_One person was killed and two injured when gunmen opened fire on a bus in Al-Nosoor Square, west Baghdad, around 3 p.m. Sunday.

_A joint force of the Iraqi army and the U.S. army found a graveyard Sunday containing five bodies of men in the Boob al-Sham area, north of Baghdad.

_Police found five bodies in Baghdad Sunday: two in Mansour, one in Washash, one in Ma’amil, and one in Husseiniyah.

SALAHUDDIN PROVINCE

_Twenty-three people were killed and 45 wounded Sunday when a suicide car bomb targeted a shopping center in the Mazari’a village in Yathrib district, south of Tikrit, around 4:30 p.m. Many shops were damaged.

_Gunmen killed two people near Tikrit-Baghdad Street, north of Baghdad, Sunday afternoon.

DIYALA PROVINCE

_Two policemen were killed and 17 people (10 policemen and seven civilians) were injured when 10 mortar shells hit Baladrooz police station in Baladrooz, east of Baqouba, Sunday morning.

KIRKUK

_A local tribal leader, Majeed Ahmed Khalaf, was injured with two of his followers when a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle near their car on Abbasi-Hawija Street, southwest Kirkuk, around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

ANBAR PROVINCE

_Three people were killed (a police officer and two tribal members) and seven injured when a suicide car bomb targeted a checkpoint in the Albo Efan area, west of Baghdad, around 5 p.m. Sunday.

NINEVAH PROVINCE

_A source in the Iraqi army said that gunmen from al-Qaida killed a family (parents and their four children) in Sinjar, west of Mosul, Sunday morning. After the incident, joint troops (U.S. forces and local tribes) raided the strongholds of the insurgents. Ten insurgents were killed and three arrested. Six tribal members were killed and two women injured.

_Four civilians were injured in a suicide car bombing that targeted a checkpoint of the Iraqi army in the Hadba’a neighborhood, downtown Mosul, Sunday afternoon.

_Four Iraqi soldiers and seven civilians were killed in a suicide car bombing that targeted a checkpoint of the Iraq army in the Sahaji area, west of Mosul, Sunday afternoon.

_A fuel station owner was killed and three other people injured Sunday when a gunman opened fire in Haj Ali village in Makhmoor, southeast of Mosul.
