A kidnapped British journalist and his Iraqi interpreter were to be released in Basra Wednesday, the local office of an influential Shiite cleric said.

The Basra office of Moqtada Sadr said negotiations with kidnappers were completed and the two would be handed over to the cleric’s representatives, The Times of London reported.

The photojournalist working for CBS News would be released to Sadr’s custody while the interpreter would be released to the Basra police command.

The two men were seized Sunday from a Basra hotel by a gang of five to 10 people.
