Iran has provided new information about its nuclear program but that information isn’t complete, the United Nation’s nuclear agency said Friday.

Because information from Iran about its nuclear program is incomplete and inconsistent, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it couldn’t determine whether Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes, a draft report circulated by IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said.

We have made quite good progress in clarifying the outstanding issues that had to do with Iran’s past nuclear activities, with the exception of one issue, the alleged weaponization studies Iran reportedly has conducted, the report circulated from Austria said.

Besides clarifying Iran’s past nuclear use, IAEA must ensure Iran’s current activities are for peaceful purposes. The agency has asked Iran to conclude the so-called Additional Protocol, which permits inspectors to visit more places and review additional documents to be able to provide assurance, not only that Iran´s declared activities are for peaceful purposes but that there are no undeclared nuclear activities.

Tehran has provided greater acces, but ElBaradei said it was insufficient.

We need Iran to implement the Additional Protocol, he said. We need to have that authority as a matter of law.
