Obama Rejects Clinton VP Discussions

Posted on: Monday, 10 March 2008, 18:00 CDT

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., tossed aside suggestions from Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign that he could be her vice president on the Democratic ticket.

Ahead of Clinton in the polls and pledged delegate count, Obama scratched his head, wondering why, if the New York senator says he's not qualified to be commander-in-chief, he would be suitable as the one who's a heartbeat away from the presidency, The Politico reported Monday.

I don't understand. If I am not ready (to be president), how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president? Obama asked. I don't understand.

Clinton said last week, I've had people say, 'I wish I could vote for both of you.' Well, that might be possible someday.

Obama said Clinton is fighting hard to win the Democratic race for the presidential nomination and has her competitor's respect, CNN reported.

But I want everybody to be absolutely clear. I'm not running for vice president. I'm running for president of the United States of America, Obama said.
