FBI Raids Office of Special Counsel

FBI agents Tuesday searched the home and offices of Scott Bloch, the head of the U.S. Office of Special Counsel.

National Public Radio reported that 20 FBI agents arrived at the Washington office Tuesday morning and seized several computers and removed documents. NPR said agents also searched a special counsel office in Dallas.

The Wall Street Journal reports agents were serving grand jury subpoenas, and cited office employees who said the searches appeared to be focused on obstruction of justice allegations during a 2006 investigation of Bloch's conduct.

The independent Special Counsel's Office, established in the 1970s, investigates retaliation against whistle-blowers and partisan political activities by government employees that might violate the Hatch Act.

USA Today reported allegations last year that Bloch used federal funds to pay a private IT company to delete information from his computer, which was owned by the government.
