China Holds Talks With Tibet Envoys
World News IN BRIEF
*BEIJING China resumed fence-mending talks with envoys of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in a move that could improve its international image in the weeks before it hosts the Olympics. Yesterday's meeting was the second since riots erupted in Tibet in March and put pressure on China to deal with the Nobel laureate, who fled into exile in India in 1959 after an abortive uprising against Chinese rule. The talks will continue today.(c) 2008 Independent, The; London (UK). Provided by ProQuest Information and Learning. All rights Reserved.
