Still No Word From Obama on VP Choice, With Kaine in Tow
The John Tyler connection just didn’t pan out.
Tyler was the last vice president to come from Virginia, and some prognosticators wondered if Barack Obama’s appearance with Gov. Timothy M. Kaine Thursday at the community college bearing Tyler’s name would be the occasion for, at last, an announcement of Obama’s running mate.
But during the roughly 90-minute appearance in Chesterfield County, Democratic candidate Obama didn’t talk much about the governor. And none of the audience members who asked Obama questions mentioned the rumors about Kaine as a running mate.
The most Obama said about Kaine was, “He’s a good guy, isn’t he?”
The speculation did land Kaine an appearance on CNN earlier in the day. As usual, he gave no clues about his chances, but confided, “My mom in Kansas City loves it when someone will talk about me as VP,” according to CNN.com.
