Chicago White Sox left fielder Carlos Quentin is slated for surgery Monday on his fractured right wrist and will miss at least three weeks.
This season, the young slugger has been an unexpected power source for the AL Central-leading White Sox with his league-leading 36 home runs and 100 runs batted in in 480 at bats. Quentin is considered an AL MVP candidate.
Quentin was injured in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
Team officials didn't say how he was hurt and wouldn't discuss if he would return for the postseason.
During the surgery by team hand and wrist specialists, Quentin will have a screw inserted into the wrist.
