Bill Clinton Pledges to Campaign for Obama

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, after a private lunch with the former president in New York, said his campaign is putting Bill Clinton to work.
Obama spent two hours with Clinton at the ex-president's office in Harlem, The Los Angeles Times reported. Obama was in the city for a joint afternoon appearance with his Republican rival, John McCain, at the World Trade Center site.
Clinton and Obama said they had a "great conversation" in a joint statement afterward. Clinton predicted that Obama "will win and win handily."
"There you go," Obama told reporters. "You can take it from the president of the United States. He knows a little something about politics."
Clinton promised to do whatever the campaign asks.
"We're putting him to work," Obama said.
The meeting comes at a critical time for the Obama campaign. Polls show that McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has attracted some white women, who formed a critical part of Sen. Hillary Clinton's base during her run for the Democratic nomination.
