SURVEY: American Workers Want Universal Healthcare

A new poll suggests that Americans may be ready to consider a universal healthcare plan. According to results from the "Getting Paid In America" survey, forty-six percent of American employees are in a favor of a universal healthcare system for the United States.
"More than 20,000 of the 45,180 workers polled in our 'Getting Paid In America' survey indicated they're for a universal healthcare system in America," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association, the survey's publisher. "The remaining 24,000 responses were split with 28 percent against the idea and 26 percent uncertain."
The survey results also showed very strong opinions about how a universal healthcare plan should be funded. Of those indicating they're for a universal healthcare plan in the survey, 81 percent think the plan should be funded by a combination of tax dollars and employers.
The online "Getting Paid In America" survey asked: "Are you for or against a universal healthcare system for the United States?" Forty-six percent indicated they're for a universal healthcare plan, while 28 percent surveyed are against it. Twenty-six percent selected "Don't know."
The "Getting Paid In America" survey was held in conjunction with the American Payroll Association's annual public awareness campaign, National Payroll Week (NPW), held annually the week of Labor Day. More than 45,000 employees responded to the survey, providing insight into how workers are paid in America.
