Christians Escape Sunni Gunmen in Mosul
NEWS IN BRIEF :: IRAQ
At least 3,000 Christians have fled the northern Iraqi city of Mosul in the past week, after shootings, evictions and kidnap attempts by Sunni Muslim extremists. Provincial governor Duraid Mohammed Kashmoula accused al-Qaida of orchestrating a campaign of major displacement, and called for the launch of a new US and Iraqi military offensive to chase the insurgents out. Police have found the bullet-ridden bodies of seven Christians so far this month.
