A New York state man admitted strangling his wife during a violent argument after he returned from a weekend jaunt to Atlantic City, police said Thursday.
Lt. John Azzata, a Nassau County detective, said that William Walsh, 29, of Bethpage signed a confession to the killing, the New York Daily News reported. Azzata said that Walsh was "remorseful" and that the killing of his wife, Leah, did not appear to be planned.
Leah Walsh, 29, was a special education teacher in Glen Cove. She told a friend recently that her marriage of three years was finished.
Investigators say that Walsh tried to cover his tracks. He allegedly waited until Sunday night to dispose of his wife's body near the Long Island Expressway.
"In the cover of darkness, he drove around Long Island and Nassau County looking for a dark area," Azzata said. "He dragged her across the cold grass and left her in trees, weeds in a wooded area."
Azzata said that Walsh then abandoned his wife's car on a highway shoulder, walked 3 miles home and returned in his own car with her purse, which he threw into a ditch.
