Celebrities including Madonna, Liv Tyler and Kate Moss converged on this remote Scottish island, apparently for the closely guarded wedding of designer Stella McCartney and publisher Alasdhair Willis.

There was no official confirmation that the 31-year-old daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney had married Willis, also 31, on Saturday at Mount Stuart, a Victorian gothic mansion on Bute, off Scotland’s west coast.

The house and its 300-acre estate are owned by McCartney family friend Johnny Dumfries, the seventh Marquis of Bute.

Dozens of celebrities including Paul McCartney and his wife, Heather Mills, Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Gucci boss Tom Ford were spotted on the island.

Security was tight, with residents reporting they had been given passes to get to their homes.

The Scotsman newspaper had reported that McCartney and Willis were to marry on the Mull of Kintyre, a favorite haunt of McCartney’s father and mother, the late Linda McCartney, and subject of one of Paul McCartney’s chart-topping songs. The Mull of Kintyre is a short helicopter ride from Bute.

Other reports suggested the couple married in the chapel at Mount Stuart.
