Police in San Jose, Calif., said they have opened a hate crime investigation after swastikas and Stars of David were found painted on a church building.
Jack Longley, pastor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, said the graffiti was found Sunday on the signs of his church and the congregation that shares the same building, the Indonesian Christian Church, the San Jose Mercury News reported Wednesday.
Police said they are treating the investigation as a hate crime.
"The swastika and the Star of David?," Longley said. "These are kind of contradictory. Why me? Why us?''
"We're not a controversial church that I know of," he said. "We're not politically involved.''
