Suicide Attack Kills 11 in Afghanistan

A suicide vehicle-bomb attack Thursday on a U.S. military convoy in Afghanistan killed at least 10 Afghan civilians and one U.S. soldier, authorities said.

The attacker rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy at a crowded marketplace in Bati Kot town, outside Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan, CNN reported.

The U.S. network quoted the U.S. military as saying 25 more people were injured. Local police put the figure at 40, the report said.

Thursday is when families and other gather at the market area to buy animals and goods, CNN said.

GEO TV blamed the attack on the Taliban. The Pakistani network quoted officials as saying the explosion killed an American soldier and 10 Afghan civilians, and wounded 55 others. Two tanks also were destroyed.
