Man Uses 100,000 Lights For Christmas

A Sherman, Ill., man said he has created a 100,000-light animated Christmas display in his yard that synchronizes with a 43-minute loop of songs.
Scott Loftus said he began work on his annual light display Nov. 1 and switched on the power during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, The State Register Journal of Springfield, Ill., reported Monday.
He said a computer program synchronizes the lights with the nine Christmas songs on the 43-minute loop.
It's relaxing for me,
Loftus said of creating his massive display. I can get out here and get away from everything that's going on around me.
I think about it all year long, what I'm going to do, and it's about three to four weeks to set up the display,
he said. Building the display is the easy part of it. It's all computer-animated. It's about three hours per minute for each song to be programmed.
Loftus said the power bill for the display, which usually runs between $300 and $400, is paid by Country Insurance in Sherman.
