The court's justices did not comment on their action, whichupholds lower state court rulings and comes amid courtchallenges to the state's voter-approved ban on same-sexmarriages after San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom touched off anational debate on the issue by issuing city marriage licensesto gay couples.
Separately, some California lawmakers are consideringreviving a bill that would allow same-sex marriages in thestate.
The bill failed to passed the state Assembly earlier thisyear but some lawmakers believe the state Senate may be morereceptive to it.
California's domestic partnership law took effect on Jan. 1after former Gov. Gray Davis signed it in 2003. A conservativegroup and late Republican state Sen. Pete Knight challenged thelaw, arguing it conflicted with the state's voter-approved lawdefining marriage as union between a man and a woman.
